For Weighmasters

Pursuant to RSA 438, the Division licenses public weighmasters authorized to weigh or meaure any commodity or thing, or issue a statement or memorandum of weight or measure based on results obtained by using a vehicle scale. See Agr 1402 and 1403.

II. How to Renew your Weighmaster License

  • Renewal forms are mailed to your employer's address 2-3 months prior to your expiration date;
  • Make any necessary corrections in "Section A" of the renewal form;
  • Read, sign, and date the renewal form;
  • Submit the renewal form that has the original signature of the weighmaster, with the $96 license fee to the address at the top of the form;
  • Licenses are renewed for an additional 2 years;
  • Expired licenses are not to be renewed. Individuals with expired licenses are to reapply and retake the exam.

III. How to Become a Licensed Public Weighmaster

  • Submit a typed application that is complete, accurate, and has the original signature of the applicant (see "Application for Weighmaster Exam and License" below);
  • Exam Fee: Include a $20 non-refundable check made payable to “Treasurer, State of NH”;
  • Return the completed application and payment to: NH Dept. of Agriculture, Markets & Food, Division of Weights and Measures, PO Box 2042, Concord, NH 03302-2042;
  • Your examination date will be reserved after we receive your application and exam fee;
    • Exam spots are reserved in the order we receive applications and exam fees. All applications and exam fees must be received at least one week prior to the exam date.
  • The Division will notify the applicant and/or employer via email at least one week prior to their reserved examination date;
    • The applicant will be provided information explaining where to park, where the exam is, what time the exam starts, recommended study materials, and the prorated license fee amount, etc.
    • Applicant is required to possess a current copy of the weighmaster rules (see "Study Materials for the Weighmaster Exam" below);
  • Applicant will be required to achieve a score of 70% or greater to pass the exam. Exams will be graded immediately after the applicant finishes the exam;
  • Applicant will be required to pay the prorated license fee in accordance with Agr 1410.06. This should be brought to the exam. Checks shall be made payable to “Treasurer, State of NH”;
  • Applicant will be issued a Weighmaster License ID # upon successfully passing the exam. Please be advised that the Division no longer issues a hardcopy license. Check the Division’s website for a list of all licensed weighmasters.
