Farmer Mental Health Program

NH Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food Farmer Mental Health Support Program

The NH Farmer Mental Health Support Program, launched by NH Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food, is designed to address the primary root causes of farmer stress, mental health issues, and suicide through direct services to farmers. Direct services offered through this program include counseling/therapy sessions and farm financial analysis support. These services will provide farmers with tools to navigate, mitigate, and face the myriad unique stressors for those in agriculture.

Counseling Support

Due to limited funds, this program will prioritize farm owners. Each farm owner is eligible to receive funds equivalent to 10 sessions at $120 per session, totaling $1,200. Counseling Associates will work to optimize this total amount. The farmer can elect to use the $1,200 to cover co-pay and costs not covered under their insurance if they so wish.Multiple farm owners per operation are allowed.

Counseling Associates will prioritize access for participants in this program and is able to offer in-person sessions in one of their five locations: New London, Claremont, Hanover (near Dartmouth Health), Downtown Hanover, and Plymouth or via telehealth sessions.

Farmers can also select licensed therapists of their choosing if their selected licensed therapist agrees to be on-boarded as an independent contractor with Counseling Associates and accept the payment schedule and terms of the program.

To be eligible, farm owners must: Be a business owner who materially participated in the business and owned and operated the farm business for at least one season.

We want to honor the confidentiality of this opportunity, so application for mental health assistance will not run through the Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food, instead farmers should contact Counseling Associates directly by calling 603-678-4751 and reference the Farmer Mental Health Support Program. An electronic application will be available soon.
