For Weighmasters

Pursuant to RSA 438, the Division licenses public weighmasters authorized to weigh or meaure any commodity or thing, or issue a statement or memorandum of weight or measure based on results obtained by using a vehicle scale. See Agr 1402 and 1403.

II. How to Renew your Weighmaster License

  • Renewal forms are mailed to your employer's address 2-3 months prior to your expiration date;
  • Make any necessary corrections in "Section A" of the renewal form;
  • Read, sign, and date the renewal form;
  • Submit the renewal form that has the original signature of the weighmaster, with the $96 license fee to the address at the top of the form;
  • Licenses are renewed for an additional 2 years;
  • Expired licenses are not to be renewed. Individuals with expired licenses are to reapply and retake the exam.

III. How to Become a Licensed Public Weighmaster

  • Complete a typed application that is accurate and has the original signature of the applicant (see "Application for Weighmaster Exam and License" below);
  • Send the completed application via email (nhwm@agr.nh.gov) or mail to NH Dept. of Agriculture, Markets & Food, Division of Weights and Measures, PO Box 2042, Concord, NH 03302-2042;
  • Upon receipt of the completed application, the Divison will notify the applicant and/or employer via email of the total amount due for exam ($20) and license fees ($ depends on scheduled exam date);
  • Send a non-refundable check or money order to the mailing address with the correct payment amount made payable to "Treasurer, State of NH";
  • Upon receipt of the payment, the Division will notify the applicant and/or employer via email of the reserved examination date and applicable exam information;
    • The applicant will be provided with information explaining where to park, exam location, exam time, and recommended study materials.
    • The applicant is required to possess a current copy of the weighmaster rules (see "Study Materials for the Weighmaster Exam" below);
  • Exam spots are reserved in the order we receive applications and exam/license fees. All applications and fees must be received at least one week prior to the exam date.
  • Applicant will be required to achieve a score of 70% or greater to pass the exam. Exams will be graded immediately after the applicant finishes the exam;
  • Applicant will be issued a Weighmaster License ID # upon successfully passing the exam. Please be advised that the Division no longer issues a hardcopy license. Check the Division’s website for a list of all licensed weighmasters.

Exam Dates:

Applications and payments MUST be received no later than one week before the exam. Testing will take place at our new office located at 1 Granite Place South, Concord, NH, 2nd floor, room 208. All exams will begin promptly at 9:00am. If you are late, you will not be allowed to take the exam and it must be rescheduled.
